Oak Climbing on Virl O. Norton Traditional Cache

If you're willing to go a little off trail, you can still find some great places for new caches in Almaden Quicksilver. This one is a few hundred feet off the Virl O. Norton trail on a well-established geotrail/game trail. For some added terrain fun, the cache is about 10' off the ground and requires an easy tree climb to reach!

To get there, take the Virl O. Norton trail and look for the bike jump. (See the photo in the gallery.) The geotrail starts at the top of the bike jump and continues more or less all the way to the cache. You're looking for a large pill bottle securely fastened to the tree, about 10' off the ground. It cannot be retrieved with a grabber. You'll need to climb into the tree to reach it, but the climb is simple and not too difficult -- just one big step up and you're there! A pencil is provided, so you don't need to take anything up there except yourself!

There's no poison oak in the immediate area, but please keep an eye out for the usual hazards. The nearest entrance is the Mockingbird Staging Area. Please respect park hours of 8:00 a.m. to sunset. Happy Hunting!!
