FAAN: The ICAO airport code for Aliwal North Airfield.
The ICAO airport code or location indicator is a four-letter code designating aerodromes around the world. These codes are defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization, and published in ICAO Document 7910: Location Indicators are used by air traffic control and airline operations such as flight planning.
ICAO codes are also used to identify other aviation facilities such as weather stations, International Flight Service Stations or Area Control Centers, whether or not they are located at airports. Flight information regions are also identified by a unique ICAO-code.
The cache is hidden at the Aliwal North Airfield. Local aviation enthusiasts, who are all private pilots, maintain the hangers and runways. The airfield has three grass runways, of variable lengths, which are frequently used by private pilots, the SANDF (mostly helicopters) and in case of a medical emergency, EMS helicopters and air ambulances.
The cache is a 45mm Bison tube with a logsheet. Please replace as found. Happy caching.
