Geocache Description:

After the 2013 Seddon earthquake revealed gaps in the local radio communications network, Brian FM radio station made its airwaves available to Marlborough Civil Defence. However due to a power cut and no backup generator, the radio station went down for 45 minutes on the 7.8 magnitude Kaikoura earthquake in November 2016 and the vital civil defence messages could not be relayed.

However a collaboration between AMI Insurance, Brian FM, the Marlborough District Council and Marlborough Lines has seen a new emergency generator purchased and installed on the Wither Hills to ensure the message gets out in an emergency.

The cache is a suitably camouflaged mint tin with a Rite in the Rain log sheet located at the emergency generator.

Use this cache to become familiar with the latest emergency management infrastructure helping keep people safe in the Marlborough area.

BYOP

There are multiple access points to the Wither Hills Farm Park and you can use any of them to access this cache depending on how long you've got, but the closest is at the southern end of Weld Street. It's a bit of a grunt up to here from there, so the council has kindly placed a seat to let you rest.
