Riksdaler och Daler var flera svenska och dansk-norska myntenheter. De tillverkades främst i silver men även i koppar. Senare tillverkades även sedlar i (riks)daler.
1500-talet
I Sverige tillverkades de första dalrarna under Gustav Vasas regering år 1534, med förebild i de tyska thalrarna.
1600-talet
Rikdalern introduceras efter tysk förebild då Karl IX år 1604 började att slå mynt med namnet riksdaler från tyskans Reichstaler. På grund av sin höga silverhalt togs riksdalern ur cirkulation, blev värda 48 öre medan vanliga daler var värda 32 öre, 1619 sjönk dalerkursen ytterligare något så att 1 riksdaler motsvarade 1 ⅝ daler.
Riksdaler 1776–1829
Riksdaler infördes i myntreformen under Gustav III:s regering som gällande silvermyntfot i samband med att kopparmyntfoten avskaffades.
Riksdaler specie 1830–1859
Specie användes tidigt som beteckning på riksdalermynt i silver. Från och med 1830 präglas mynten med enheten riksdaler specie (rdr. sp.) istället för bara riksdaler.
Riksdaler riksmynt 1855–1872
Decimalsystemet införs och på en riksdaler riksmynt går det 100 öre. Samtidigt fastställs värdet 1 riksdaler riksmynt (rdr. rmt.) = ¼ riksdaler specie.
Kronan och myntunionen 1873
Kronan infördes i Sverige 1873 med den skandinaviska myntunionen då den ersatte riksdalern. Sverige, Danmark och Norge hade då samma värde på sina kronor, och de var giltiga som betalningsmedel i alla tre länderna. Valutaunionen baserades på en guldmyntfot. Myntunionen upphörde 1914, men Sverige, Island, Norge och Danmark använder fortfarande kronan som valuta.

Riksdaler and Daler were several Swedish and Danish-Norwegian currency units. They were made mainly of silver but also of copper. Later, banknotes were also produced in (riks)daler.
16th century
In Sweden, the first dalers were manufactured under Gustav Vasa's government in 1534, modeled on the German thalers.
17th century
The Riksdaler is introduced after the German model when Karl IX in 1604 began to mint coins with the name riksdaler from the German Reichstaler. Due to its high silver content, the riksdaler was taken out of circulation, became worth 48 öre while ordinary daler was worth 32 öre, in 1619 the daler exchange rate fell further slightly so that 1 riksdaler corresponded to 1 ⅝ daler.
Riksdaler 1776–1829
Riksdaler was introduced in the coin reform under Gustav III's government as the current silver coin base in connection with the abolition of the copper coin base.
Riksdaler species 1830–1859
Specie was used early as a designation for riksdaler coins in silver. From 1830 onwards, the coins are minted with the unit riksdaler specie (rdr. sp.) instead of just riksdaler.
Riksdaler Riksmynt 1855–1872
The decimal system is introduced and a riksdaler national coin equals 100 öre. At the same time, the value 1 riksdaler riksmynt (rdr. rmt.) = ¼ riksdaler specie is determined. (riksmynt = national coin)
The Krona and the Coin Union 1873
The krona was introduced in Sweden in 1873 with the Scandinavian currency union when it replaced the riksdaler. Sweden, Denmark and Norway then had the same value of their kronor, and they were valid as means of payment in all three countries. The monetary union was based on a gold standard. The currency union ended in 1914, but Sweden, Iceland, Norway and Denmark still use the krona as their currency.
