Kachina Prairie, Ennis, Texas. No entry fee and open to the public at all times. Dogs are allowed. This is considered a wildscape so be mindful of everything wild you find in Texas.
The entrance to this 30 acre prairie is right next to one of my favorite childhood fishing spots at Lake Clark. Kachina Prairie is an undisturbed, never-plowed piece of land, known for its wildflowers and native grasses. A “hidden-gem” to the locals. Indeed it is tucked back off the road with a small gravel parking area. There are no restrooms, no picnic tables or playgrounds. There are a couple of mowed trails and several benches and birdhouses along the way. You will likely have this park to yourself as we did when hiding our geocache.
To get to our geocache, park in the small gravel parking area at the entrance to the prairie. The drive to the parking area is located off Baldridge Road. Turn right onto the gravel drive as soon as you see the Kachina Prairie sign and drive all the way up to the entrance. The quickest way to get to our cache is to take the trail to the right. Cache is a camoed matchstick container. Log only, BYOP. We did leave 2 small crystals from the Salt Plains Wildlife Refuge in OK for the FTF.
Good luck and enjoy this wild prairie!
CONGRATULATIONS to Drives and TeamOxford for the FTF! :)
