This a small circular walk of about 1-2 miles around Shortwood Common, located near the Crooked Billett roundabout in Staines. It's also a site of special scientific interest (SSSI) which showcases rare varieties of plants such as Wild Clary, Wormwood, and Bermuda grass on the main common.
If you walk here in the month of May you will also a huge array of Buttercups scattered accross the main common. The odd one or two groups of horses and cows can be seen grazing here also (don't worry, they're very freindly).
When visiting the pond you may also see a rare plant known as the Brown Galingale along with various varieties of birds, amphibians and fish. There are plenty of signs that explain more about the common as you walk around.
If you start the walk at Shortwood Common 1 it is best to use public transport as parking in the laybys is often very busy. The ground can be uneven at times and become very boggy after wet weather, so come prepared. Unfrotunately it is not wheelchair freindly and bikes are not allowed on the commons. First of all, a nice easy find Enjoy!
