Geocache Description:

This mystery is revolved around famous historical landings, posted coordinates are off Frishman Beach, near the place the ship Altalena tried to make landing and was bombed. Solution location is connected to the Altalena story as well

Altalena was a landing ship tank, the kind that was used in WWII, and its mission was to bring weapons and fighers to the IZL or Irgum, which was the rival organization to Hagana, in the early days of the new state of Israel, when all organizations were supposed to merge into one army the IDF.

Ben Gurion the prime minister, and Begin the leader of the Irgun, did not agree on terms, and the ship arrived at the Tel Aviv beach on June 22 1948, which is about a month after the establishment of Israel. Eventually the IDF started firing on the ship, 19 people died, most of them from the ship. And Menachem Begin said later that his greatest achievement was that civil war was averted. To this day the Altalena affair is still controversial and you can trace the roots of Israeli politics to that event even today.

You can read more about it here
