The University of Florida, home of the “Florida Gators”, is a state research university on a 2,000-acre campus in Gainesville, Florida. UF traces its origins to 1853 and has operated continuously on its Gainesville campus since 1906.
More than 52,000 students attend the University of Florida. It is home to 16 academic colleges and more than 150 research centers and institutes. It offers multiple graduate professional programs—including business administration, engineering, law, dentistry, medicine and veterinary medicine and administers 123 master’s degree programs and 76 doctoral degree programs in 87 schools and departments.
The University of Florida's intercollegiate sports teams are well-known and nationally respected. Florida has won 18 national team titles since the 2008-09 season and is one of four programs to claim at least one national title each of the last nine seasons. Fourteen Gator teams have claimed national titles - that array is the fourth highest in the nation and is the highest among any team east of the Mississippi River.
