Explore Stony Plain Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Eyestone Saga: Seems like the trolls are too strong in this part of the city. It had a good run, thanks to those who found it but it isn't worth replacing several times a year.

Geocache Description:

Stony Plain is situated on a large tract of land once called Eskatina or the Stoney Plains. Its name is derived from the language of the Nakota Sioux (Stoney) First Peoples.

In 1905, the Canadian Nothern Railway started constructing a 19-mile line from Edmonton to Stony Plain. The railway was completed in 1907, but it unfortunately missed the original Stony Plain settlement by “more than a country mile”. Since the railway missed the town site, the Town Fathers decided to move the community closer to the railway. Using 20 teams of horses, they rolled the buildings over the ground by building a “corduroy” – taking logs from the back and lawing them in front of the buildings being moved.

Cache container now has rolling power, please make sure to hide back as you found it. This will allow it to be safely tucked up.
