*DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS IT IS VERY DRY ON THE NOTCH. TRAILS ARE CURRENTLY OPEN BUT NO SMOKING OR OPEN FLAMES PLEASE.Updated October 30, 2005. There are now 4 caches on this hill. See waypoints, GCR53Y, GCR53W, and GC77B0.
This is the Notch, part 2. For the first, see waypoint GC77B0. We had toyed with the idea of placing two caches up on this hill when we did the first one. But we thought it would make it too tough to do the pair of them. Well, after a week of cachers, it became apparent that the short way to the first cache was quickly figured out.
So being the kind of guy I am, and to give the old peg leg a bit of a run around, we made another trip up the Notch. This site also affords Great Views, so for the ones who have done ‘Time to put another Notch in the old GPSr' it's worth coming back to Double up.
When you find the starting point, the GPSr will lie to you and say that it's only about 450 meters away. Trust us, that's only if you're a crow or slightly masochistic. (ok, very masochistic) The way to the cache uses trails, no bush bashing or excessive rock scrambling is involved. As a matter of fact, the terrain on the hill can be slippery and steep in places, caution should be exercised even on the trails. This is really true now that the rainy season is apon us. These two caches are not really recommended for small children unless your packing them up on your back. The first Notch cache will only be about 300 meters away from this one. That's again if you're a crow. DO NOT TRY AND GO TO IT IN A STRAIGHT LINE. Take the trails it's the safer way. You'll also understand why the locals call it the Notch.
Your looking for the usual rubbremaid container wrapped in a green garbage bag. At the time of the hide it contained:
A Teddy Bear, to help guard the cache.
The usual Moose, just because he wanted to be there.
The usual Cross Stitch kit, the reason should be obvious.
An A&W Baby Mug, I hear they make a good shot glass.
A Subway certificate, torpedoes not included.
Some sew on Patches, from my wheeling past.
2 slim CD cases, you have to supply the CDs.
A stick of After Bite, if the wind isn't blowing, Skeeter alert.
A few other odds and sodds, because we wanted the cache packed.
The co-ordinates will put you close, it should be obvious after that.....
