Geocache Description:

In 1858 a drift mine was established at Ushaw Moor Colliery selling coal and the colliery closed in 1960, as part of the collapse of the Durham coal fields. This is what brings us to a small geocache located somewhere near the statue in the middle of the village where you can spot a coal pick statue as a part of the larger installment. The geocache is a small, black tube low to the ground. Stealth needed because of a busy road

It is said that the name 'Ushaw' comes from Scandinavian origin that means wolves wood. Ushaw Moor dates to a least the sixteenth century which we know from Parish records

The geocache is small and black. It is a tube with a paper log, please don't take up too much room on the paper. Quick removal and replacement are ensured by the little black tab on top of the log. Twist the tab to make rolling the log a little bit easier and please return it to where you found it! THANK YOU
