This is part of a group of 3 caches around York that will take you to visit WWII airfields, some are in working order and others returning to nature. The cache is accessible via about 3 footpaths, but the shortest way is to park on the outskirts of Ryther village and head to the bridge. The cache is a rectangular container. The name of the cache comes from the fact that you probably came in a car, you can see cars on the two road bridges, you will almost certainly see a train as you are next to the East coast main line and when you are on the bridge and look West you can see the main runway of RAF Church Fenton. If you visit the cache during normal flying hours 9-5 Mon – Fri there is a very good chance you will see Tucano aircraft flying very close to you. Church Fenton opened in 1937 as a fighter airfield and is still in use, during the week for practice landing / takeoff for aircraft from RAF Linton-on-Ouse and at the weekend you may see aircraft from the University Air Squadron.
