Geocache Description:

A visit to Phoenix South Mountain Park for a historical virtual find and a great photo op.

Built in 1936 by Bill Lunsford using rocks he hauled up from the wash below and constructed in place. He and his wife operated a small store and curio shop, as well as living on property. This property has a 100 ft frontage with 2 bldgs., a well, and had as many as 1800 species of cacti brought in from many locations of the world. They operated their business here into 1966.

The property was listed in the Phoenix Historic Property and Preservation Register in Oct 1990.

Today, Scorpion Gulch is open to the public. Located at 10225 S Central, Scorpion Gulch is easily accessible and visible while driving to S Mt Park via Central Ave. The roofs of both bldgs are all but entirely gone.

In order to log a find on this virtual cache, take a picture of yourself or your signature item at the coordinates. An alternate way to log is to find the highest framed window in the 2 bldgs and tell me the correct cardinal or intercardinal direction it faces via e-mail, not in your online log. No bearing required.

Hey, after finding this virtual cache make a point to visit the S Mt Environmental Education Center and visit and/or hike the trails.
