When I was a kid, back before the internet, YouTube, Facebook, and Netflix, the world seemed so much bigger! When someone from TV or the movies came to town it was a big deal! I remember my mom, sister, and I piling into the car and driving down to Rolling Oaks Mall to see Alan Thicke. At the time, he was the dad on “Growing Pains”, a “must see TV” show for me! I also remember going down to River Center Mall to see if we could spot some of the film locations for Knight Rider 2000!
Back in the 80s, my friends and I were big into espionage: movies, games, etc. We played Spy Vs. Spy on the Commodore 64 and played Top Secret, a role-playing game. In 1984, the movie Cloak & Dagger was released. It was about a kid named Davey, living in San Antonio, who witnesses the murder of an FBI agent. The agent gives Davey a game called “Cloak & Dagger” before he dies. Davey then finds himself on the run and knee-deep in espionage. Here I was, a 10 year-old boy, seeing Davey on grand adventures through my very own city! Boy did I want to live those adventures! Hmmm, now that I think about it, I can see why Geocaching is so appealing to me; it’s like being a secret agent!
Here is your chance to be a secret agent! Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to go to one of the waypoints listed and recreate one of the scenes from Cloak & Dagger. As your intelligence operative, I will provide you with the general area and the required intel, but as a special agent, you must find the location depicted in one of the scenes and recreate it to the best of your ability. Good luck, and remember, photographs or it didn’t happen! Note – faces not required!
