Das Kloster Breitenau liegt gegenüber dem Ort Guxhagen, von dem es durch die Fulda getrennt ist.
Das ehemalige Benediktinerkloster gilt als „Keimzelle“ Guxhagens und wurde im Jahre 1113 in der „breiten Aue“ errichtet. Noch heute ist das ehemalige Klostergebäude von der alten Klostermauer kreisförmig umschlossen.
Es gab in der Klostermauer zwei Tortürme, das "Fulda Tor" und das noch erhaltene "Grifter Tor".
In dessen Nähe gibt es seit Dezember 2017 die Station eines Themenwanderweges rund um das Kloster. Diese Station ist die Bronzestatue eines Benediktinermönches. Dieses Standbild soll an die Glaubensbrüder des Hl. Benedikt erinnern, die 1119 in das sechs Jahre zuvor gegründete Kloster in der „breiten Aue“ einzogen. Der Vogel auf seinem Arm ist ein Kuckuck. Er soll an die erste Ortsbezeichnung von Guxhagen, Kukushayn, erinnern.

The Breitenau Monastery is located opposite the village of Guxhagen separated by the river Fulda.
