Looking south across the lake you can see Ruapehu, NZ's largest active volcano, with Tongariro and Ngauruhoe nearby. But Ruapehu is not the Giant I refer to. Between GZ and the volcanoes mentioned was another. The Taupo volcano. This volcano has produced 2 of the world's most violent eruptions. In 25,360BC it produced the most recent worlds supereruption (a volcanic index of 8) followed by a more recent eruption circa 180 AD, slightly less powerful but still recorded in Greece and China. The caldera (collapsed crater) of the Taupo volcano became water filled and this led to the formation of Lake Taupo. Therefore it is appropriate that the namesake of my 16th cache in the Giant series, being a virtual cache, can also not be seen. With GZ closed due to a sinkhole confirm your find by 1 of the following methods. A photo of self or GPS or mascot near GZ. 2 Message me stating what the ineffective transport system found near GZ would be in the event of another eruption. This Virtual Cache is part of a limited release of Virtuals created between August 24, 2017 and August 24, 2018. Only 4,000 cache owners were given the opportunity to hide a Virtual Cache.
