I've placed several caches around Hamble in places of interest, mainly to do with Hamble's aircraft industry.
In 1916, A V Roe purchased land in Hamble for an aircraft factory and airfield. This was called South airfield. The area was between Hamble Lane, Southampton Water.
The Red Arrow is in the grounds of BAe which is still involved in the aircraft industry. Design & manufacture of parts for Airbus are made here.
The site was originally British Marine Aircraft Limited was formed in February 1936.
The Red Arrow is a model of a Folland Gnat, the prototype of which, flew on 18 July 1955. The RAF did not think it would make a good fighter but Folland identified another use as an advanced trainer aircraft. The prototype Gnat Trainer conducted its maiden flight on 31 August 1959. Both were built at Hamble until the 1960s with the final Gnat T.1 for the RAF being delivered in May 1965
