"Settai" is a place name located in Nagawa Town in Nagano Prefecture, where there was a facility named Settai on the way of Wada Pass. Even now the building remains.
"Settai" is meant to mean simply "entertain customers", but now it is used to mean "businesses entertaining business partners at restaurants etc.".
There was also a meaning "to drive hot water, tea, meal to people going and coming along the roadside at the roadside."
This ”Settai” was constructed in order that Wada Pass was a difficult point and the troubles of travelers were numerous, so that Edo's luxury merchants lend money to the shogunate so that they can be operated with the money of interest.
To the traveler crossing the pass in the winter months of November to March, the shogunate provided bonfire and porridge in this building.
The shogunate also provided boiled rice throughout the year for cattle and horses carrying luggage.
The cache is located near the "Settai" explanatory board.
