Going HQ - come to Vancouver and see Event Cache

On our tour of a part of the USA is also planned a detour to Vancouver/Canada. With this event we will finish the day and wait for the train to take us back to Seattle.

Location: Is the park in front of the Central Pacific Railroad station. Departure will be against 5:35.

The logbook will be available for signing from about 4:00 pm half an hour.

If the departure time is postponed, the event period will be adjusted and corrected in the listing.

Auf unserer Tour durch einen Teil der USA ist auch ein Abstecher nach Vancouver / Canada geplant. Mit diesem Event lassen wir dort den Tag ausklingen und warten auf den Zug, der uns zurück nach Seattle bringen wird.

Location: ist der Park vor der Central Pacific Railroad Station. Abfahrt wird gegen 17:35 sein.

Das Logbuch wird ab ca. 16:00 ein halbe Stunde zum signieren ausliegen.

Sollte sich die Abfahrt zeitlich verschieben, wird der Event-Zeitraum angepasst und im Listing korrigiert.

Pacific Central Station in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada is a railway station which acts as the western terminus of Via Rail's cross-country The Canadian to Toronto and the northern terminus of Amtrak’s Cascades to Seattle and Portland. The station also provides intercity coach service, being the head office and bus depot of Pacific Coach Lines and the main Vancouver terminal for Greyhound Canada. The station is wheelchair-accessible and is staffed with full Via services.

The Amtrak Cascades provides two daily round trips from Vancouver. One goes to Seattle, Washington; the other continues on to Portland, Oregon. Rather than stopping for an immigration inspection at the border, as happens with the Adirondack to Montreal and Maple Leaf to Toronto, Amtrak passengers go through Canadian customs at the station upon arrival. Passengers bound for the United States go through United States border preclearance prior to boarding in Vancouver.

The Rocky Mountaineer operated from Pacific Central Station until moving to the nearby Rocky Mountaineer Station in 2005; they began to use Pacific Central Station again for their new Coastal Passage route in 2013.

Die Pacific Central Station ist ein Bahnhof in der kanadischen Stadt Vancouver. Er befindet sich an der 1150 Station Street, am östlichen Ende des Meeresarms False Creek.

Der Kopfbahnhof ist die westliche Endstation des transkontinentalen Zuges The Canadian von VIA Rail nach Toronto und die nördliche Endstation des Amtrak Cascades nach Seattle. Ausflugszüge verkehren nach Calgary, Jasper und Whistler. Überlandbusse von Greyhound Lines verkehren vom Terminal auf dem Bahnhofsvorplatz. In unmittelbarer Nähe befindet sich die Station Main Street-Science World der Expo Line des SkyTrain.

Reisende in Richtung USA müssen bereits hier durch die Einreise-Grenzkontrolle der USA. Der Zug nach Seattle fährt dazu von einem abgetrennten Bereich des Bahnhofs ab. Dieses Vorgehen verkürzt den Aufenthalt des Zuges an der eigentlichen Landgrenze erheblich, da dort nur noch eine kurze Zollkontrolle stattfindet, erfordert jedoch rechtzeitiges Eintreffen der Fahrgäste deutlich vor Abfahrt des Zuges. In Gegenrichtung finden Pass- und Zollkontrolle erst nach Ankunft des Zuges im Bahnhof statt, an der Grenze wird nicht gehalten.

1912 machte das Management der Canadian Northern Railway (CNR) der Stadt das Angebot, das östliche Drittel des False Creek aufzufüllen. Auch die Great Northern Railway beteiligte sich an diesem Projekt und erbaute 1915 auf dem neu gewonnenen Land einen Bahnhof. Im selben Jahr erreichte die Strecke der CNR den Stadtrand von Vancouver. Da aber die Gesellschaft am Rande des finanziellen Ruins operierte, konnten die Bauarbeiten am Bahnhof, der neben jenem der Great Northern zu liegen kam, erst 1917 beginnen. Als der Bahnhof im November 1919 eröffnet wurde, befand sich die Gesellschaft bereits in Liquidation (sie wurde schließlich 1923 von der Canadian National Railway übernommen).

1965 wurde der benachbarte Bahnhof der Great Northern abgerissen. 1979 verlegte VIA Rail, die im Personenverkehr die Nachfolge der Canadian National Railway angetreten hatte, die Endstation aller überregionalen Linien zum Bahnhof Pacific Central. Der bisherige Hauptbahnhof Waterfront der Canadian Pacific Railway wurde zur Endstation des SkyTrain umgebaut.
