Geocache Description:

Welcome to Booran Reserve formerly known as Caulfield Reservoir.  The reservoir was built in 1883 and decommissioned in the late 1970s. Whilst in operation it could hold up to 38 million litres of water which was used to both maintain pressure throughout the system as well as pipe water to local residents. Although four other similar reservoirs were constructed it was the first to be built from concrete.

In 2008 the former owner of the site, Melbourne Metropolitan Board of Works proposed to transfer the land to the City of Glen Eira in order that the land be re-developed into public open space. After four years of consultation, plans were finalised. The construction phase took a further five years and cost  $10 million dollars. Were the results worth it? I’ll let you and possibly the geo-kids in tow decide….

The posted co-ordinates will take you to a carpark. You need to proceed to the first waypoint where you will see a number of information boards stretching over two of the reservoir’s walls. Not all the boards will be needed to answer the following questions. Each question will relate to a separate board or in some cases  spread over a triptych of boards. Once you have obtained the required information from a board (or triptych), time to move to another board (or triptych) for the next piece of information.

A = How many people in the river?

B = How many eyes does Tiddalik the Frog have?

C = Samuel Thomas Gill better known as ST Gill was an artist in the 1Cth century

D = The Yan Yean reservoir opened in 1D57

WP2=S 37 53.AAB E 145 02.BCD

WP2 - An Industrial Object as Artwork - Counting Time!

Some salvaging has gone on here. This is one of three pieces of machinery that have been installed on the periphery of the site. Time for some good old fashioned counting in the best traditions of multi-caches.

E = How many large round circular openings are there (count both sides)?

F = How many nuts are there around the edge of the top plate minus 5;

G = How many nuts are there within ONE of the circular openings plus 1?

WP3=S 37 53.EFG E 145 02.EFG

WP3 - One Last Info Board

I couldn't resist. I know you've been through a set of information boards but this is so much more....information dense and if raining provides a decent shelter to wait it out :) Gather the required numbers and it's off to GZ.

H = Melbourne’s population had reached H00,000

J = Caulfield reservoir is one of how many service reservoirs constructed?

K = The reservoir was decommissioned in the late 197Ks

L = Caulfield Reservoir was constructed in 188L.

GZ=S37 53.HJK E 145 02.LLK

IMPORTANT INFORMATION/REQUEST: Once at GZ please don't bash through the natural camo. There is a walkway behind the camo between it and the cache. If you take the time the camo and therefore the hide will remain intact for the next finder.
