Crows in the Pines Traditional Cache

Caching in the area we noticed this clearing in the pines on our map. We decided to investigate. Upon arrival we discovered it would have been a peaceful place save for the caws from the murder of crows.

What was the purpose for this clearing in the Pines?

Could it have been ruins from a bygone era?

Was it used as a small quarry?

Now left in a littered state it could do with a little bit of TLC...
