Geocache Description:









[ENG] The colorful landscape of Danxia (close to Zhangye city) was formed from the cretaceous, about 135 millions years ago. The rock is mainly composed of sandstone and clay rocks, and it is the stratum formed in the ancient geological period by silt sediments in the inland lakes basin. The combination of minerals gives many different colors to the rocks (red, yellow, grey, light blue and green). Tectonic movement caused to form monoclinic mountains and peaks with a tilted uplift. Usually, the tilting is <30 degrees, but in some spots it is greater than 60 up to 80 degrees. As the mountains are weatered, roundy hilly landscape has formed and after long-term weatering, the strata have revealed all the stratified multiple colors and soft lines that stands here for one hundred million year.
