Geocache Description:

Another in the McLean History Series.  An easy C&D.

Please add pics and any relevant history. Thx.

A little further down Chain Bridge Road is an Historical Marker about the Salona property originally known as Langley Farm Tract comprising several thousand acres used for agricultural purposes and retained in the Lee Family from 1717 for generations followed by the Smoot family in 1865.  It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. There are records indicating significant use during the War of 1812 and the Civil War.  Prior to the advent of the English colonists, the Fairfax area was occocupied by native tribes as early as 11,000 BC and saw the melting of the glaciers that formed the Chesapeake Bay.  The last occupants of the house on the property Clive and Susan DuVal, sought easement protection for the property and Federal style home which they extensively renovated.  Some of the land was sold to McLean Baptist Church and The Salona Shopping Center.  The Salona Park is now about 42 acres and in the hands of the Fairfax County Park Authority to be developed for community recreational use. Magnetic.  Please replace so that it is secure and magnet engaged.

Congrats to seadog129 for FTF and thx to YetAnotherReviewer for another quick turn around. Makes me want to place more hides!!
