Geocache Description:

I hope this is a fun and mentally challenging geocache that exposes folks to a unique and wonderful walk in the woods as well as my favorite card game ever. People can access the woods in a variety of ways and find their way accross the long and well maintained boardwalks to a sign that will help decode the clues for the final coordinates.  The theme of the puzzle is a pirate walking the long plank, escaping to explore the forest and find the hidden treasure.

[Note: This is a mystery cache that is not at the listed coordinates. The cache is located within 200 feet of the posted location. To solve for the final coordinates, you must solve the puzzle. Happy exploring!]

Welcome to my first geocache. I hope you enjoy the wonderful walk through Hayden Woods as well as a brief introduction to my favorite game called Magic: The Gathering. This is a mystery cache that will rely on your newfound knowledge of the game. You won't require any previous knowledge of the game. All of the relevant information to solve this relatively straightforward puzzle can be found on this page. Enjoy!

Magic: The Gathering was first released in 1993 and was the first in a new genre of gaming, the collectible card came. You may have heard of Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh cards, but the big grand-daddy of them all was Magic. Nearly 25 years and 17,000 unique cards later, the game continues to evolve with new sets and strategies released every few months. I've been playing the game for nearly that long and I'm about as devoted to the game as you can get. Some people even lovingly refer to the game as "cardboard crack" to highlight the engaging and addicting nature of the game!

Each of the beautifully illustrated cards represent spells that are wielded by wizards dueling to the death. Each player taps land for the power to summon monstrous creatures, craft mysterious artifacts , conjure mystical sorceries, and enlist the help of fellow planeswalkers (wizards) to fight by their side. Each spell also has a color identity that is tied to the kind of land used to power it's conjuring. Red spells draw their power from the rocky and fiery mountains. Blue spells draw their power from the islands surrounded by deep and limitless ocean. Green spells draws their power from the natural bounty of the forests. Black spells draw their power from the dark and spooky swamps. While white spells draw their power from the sunlit and expansive plains.

Some examples of the kinds of cards you might cast in a game include the following:

Creatures like the ghostly Whispering Shade and the legendary merfolk Jori En, Ruin Diver! Each creature has a POWER and TOUGHNESS that is represented by the two numbers on the lower right side of the card. The Whispering shade has only 1 power and 1 toughness, while Jori En has 2 power and 3 toughness!

Spells to help your boost your creature's power and toughness in battle like an unexpected Giant Growth and enchanted armor like the Champion's Helm.

Mystical lands such as Gaea's Cradle and powerful allies like Jace, the Mind Sculptor.

Destructive spells like Flame Wave and the protective enchantment Leyline of Sanctity.

The Cache

Hayden Woods is part of a very nicely maintained Lexington Conservation Lands. According to the map that has been provided (map: https://imgur.com/YPbPB8g) there are many different entrances, but I highly recommend entering on Valleyfield Street. This gives you the full experience of having to walking across the extra long boardwalks that traverse the swampy areas of these woods.

Find your way to the listed coordinates (which are NOT your final destination!). There should be a large wooden sign which marks the spot of a historic road which passes through these parts. READ THE SIGN.

To find the final coordinates of this geocache, find the magic card creature listed above that shares a creature type (and name) with the second word inscribed on this sign. Note that creature's power and toughness. That creature is not quite ready for battle though. Before you attack your foe, you may want to equip the Champion's Helm and (for extra damage) cast the Giant Growth! If you did all of the above, what would be the creature's final power(X) and toughness(Y)?

The final coordinates for the cache are:

N 042 25.5XY
W 071 14.651
Good luck!
