Gibbons spend almost all of their time in the treetops of the rainforest; they don’t like to be on the ground. They even sleep in the forks of tree branches. They are incredibly fast and can move up to 56 kilometres an hour and swing between tree branches that are as wide as 15 metres. That’s an incredible leap! When gibbons walk, they tend to do so on two feet, and they throw their arms above their heads for balance. Gibbons cannot swim. Gibbons are among the most threatened primates on Earth because their habitat is quickly disappearing, and they are often captured and sold as pets, or for medicine. Like humans, gibbons are omnivores (plant and meat eaters) and love to eat figs.
