Geocache Description:

Congratulations to GenieCache for FTF! This beautiful area of Schoodic Lake in Lakeview Plantation was desperately in need of at least one geocache, so I made a contribution! (Note: There is an Adventure Lab nearby where you can get an extra smiley!)

(PLEASE hide the cache well and watch for muggles!) Schoodic Lake derives its name from the Indian word "sko-tum" meaning "trout." The lake covers 7,168 acres with a maximum depth of 188 feet, making it one of the deepest lakes in Maine. The cold water creates an angler's paradise for salmon, brook trout and togue. The peaceful town of Lakeview Plantation has a population of approximately 70 year-round residents, and on a clear day there is a great view of Mt. Katahdin. There is a public boat landing near the cache site if you would like to bring your boat and/or fishing gear. Watch your step while at ground zero, as there are rocks and blocks of cement hiding where the grass hasn't been mowed. Also, there are train tracks nearby and large rocks along the edge of the water, so please keep an eye on young children. The cache is a small container with some unique camo, but it will hold small trackables and swag. It will be available in winter, but will be hard to access if we have much snow. Included in cache: logbook, pen, pencil and small swag. Cache placed with permission from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
