The cache is located on high ground on the kayak launch trail. Here you can get a good idea how well the living shoreline is working.

Description:
A Living Shoreline

Environmentalists are always looking for better ways to control erosion. An idea for a Living Shoreline has become popular. This project is being implanted along the Indian River and Rehoboth Bays.

A project sponsored by the Inland Bays and Department of National Resources will keep the shorelines stable with natural plant material rather than the manmade materials used by homeowners.

Savages Ditch Rd is part of this program. The shoreline is built up with native plant materials, shellfish, sand and some hard structures to control the erosion yet maintain sandy beaches and wetland habitats. The project is only a few years old but good results are being seen.

Savages Ditch Rd is a favor nesting area for many native birds. More that 158 different types of birds have been sighted here. The area is also a favorite for turtles. Kayaking launching is permitted here.
