The Marco Island Historical Museum houses exhibits that trace the settlement of what is now called Marco Island from its prehistoric roots as a fishing village for the earliest settlers, the Muspa and then Calusa Indians to the explosive growth we have seen on in this tropical paradise. One of the most famous artifacts that will be returning to this location is the Marco Cat found during an exploration by Frank Hamilton Cushing in 1896. A replica stands outside this building for all to see and watch over Marco.
