Geocache Description:

Cache located at a boat landing near the Minnesota Welcome Center, easy terrain with level ground. Winter access may be more difficult.

Take a break here as you enter Minnesota and find a cache along the river. Stop in at the nearby welcome center and then take time to visit Lock and Dam 7 where you can watch up close barges and tugs lock through.  At certain times of the year you will see eagles, an ice village, or boats fishing below the dam along with the tug boats carrying goods up and down the river and if you are really lucky you may see a paddleboat going pass. While here you can pick up information nearby on the great state of Minnesota and take a break from running down the highway. Use exit 272 to exit to the rest area.

.Not quite a park and grab as at times the location could be fairly busy at times. Higher rating is due to HIGH MUGGLE factor. I tried to place this in a fairly safe area for all times caching, so you don't have to worry about being away from the vehicle,

This cache replaces the one I had at the Welcome Center (Welcome to Minnesota) up unitl they built the new interstate bridge and interchange at which time this area was inaccessible. Now new rules don't allow geocaches in Mn rest areas so I have shifted location north to this boat landing run by the Mn DNR.  There is a small trail leading from the rest area to here, look for it just behind the picnic shelter. The container here is just big enough to handle small trackables and a log book. (The log book from the previous cache actually!!)
