Multi cache che vi porterà alla scoperta di Borgo Durbecco, zona appena fuori dalle mura di Faenza.
Multi cache that will make you discover Borgo Durbecco, an area just outside Faenza's walls.
Gli stage intermedi possono essere fatti in macchina, ma consiglio di lasciarla al parcheggio segnato al waypoint e godersi una bella passeggiata.
Borgo Durbecco (oggi chiamato Corso Europa) è un quartiere di Faenza di cui le prime tracce risalgono all'XI secolo.
STAGE 1 - PONTE DELLE GRAZIE
Il Ponte si trova dove una volta sorgeva il Ponte delle Torri, costruito nel 1313 dal signore di Faenza Francesco Manfredi per collegare Faenza al Borgo e purtroppo distrutto da una piena del Lamone nel 1842. La vecchia struttura si può ancora ammirare nel vessillo del Rione Bianco.
Faenza è infatti famosa per il Palio del Niballo, che si svolge ogni estate nello stadio cittadino, in cui i 5 rioni si scontrano in una giostra medievale.
Recentemente in Rione Bianco ha ufficialmente cambiato il suo nome in Borgo Durbecco, per ricordare appunto il quartiere dove ha sede.
Indizio 1
Inciso nel ponte c'è un numero romano (ripetuto due volte in due punti diversi della struttura). Trovatelo e convertitelo in numero arabo.
Esempio: XI = 11
Il numero risultante avrà quattro cifre, nel formato ABCA.
STAGE 2 - CHIESA DELLA COMMENDA
La chiesa è aperta dalle 9:00 alle 19:00. Non è richiesto entrare per trovare l'indizio della cache, ma una visita è fortemente consigliata
Le prime documentazioni della chiesa, dedicata a Santa Maria Maddalena, risalgono al 1137. Ci si riferisce spesso ad essa come Magione (dal francese maison), denominazione tipica delle case dei cavalieri, in quanto un documento del 1301 associa la chiesa-ospizio ai Cavalieri di San Giovanni di Gerusalemme.
Prende il suo nome attuale nel 1500 poiché diventa la sede amministrativa di beni dei Giovanniti.
All'interno della chiesa sulla parete sinistra è situato il sepolcro di Fra Sabba, appartenuto all'ordine dei Cavalieri Sopitalieri, consistente in una lastra di arenaria colorata con l'epigrafe in latino da lui dettata.

Nella targhetta informativa a fianco dell'ingresso della chiesa c'è un unico anno riportato tra le varie informazioni. Sarà nel formato ACDD
STAGE 3 - PORTA DELLE CHIAVI
Unica delle porte di Faenza ad essere ancora visibile. Erano innumerevoli e oggi non ci sono più per diversi motivi:
- Porta Ravegnana venne demolita nel 1870 per facilitare la costruzione della ferrovia Bologna-Ancona;
- Porta Pia venne fatta saltare in aria dai tedeschi alle ore 15 circa dell’8 dicembre 1944;
- Porta Imolese venne fatta saltare il 7 o 14 dicembre 1944 (le fonti non sono concordi) dai tedeschi in ritirata;
- Porta Montanara subì la stessa sorte il 14 dicembre del 1944;
- Porta Ponte, situata sul vecchio Ponte delle Torri, venne demolita in seguito alla piena del fiume Lamone del 1842, poichè gli abitanti vicini temevano un crollo improvviso (nonostante la torre non avesse subito danni);
- Porta Torretta, sempre situata in Borgo Durbecco, venne demolita su richiesta degli abitanti quando ormai era stata inglobata nel tessuto urbano nel 1898;
- Porta Candiana, miracolosamente scampata ai bombardamenti della II guerra mondiale, venne invece demolita abusivamente nei primi mesi del 1945.
Questa superstite prende il suo nome dal dono delle chiavi della città a Papa Pio IX nel 1857. Ad un altro Papa è invece collegata la targa che si può trovare affissa, incisa in occasione della visita di Papa Giovanni Paolo II nel maggio del 1986. La porta è l'ultimo residuo di vecchie cinte murarie che, similmente a quelle di Faenza, circondavano l'intero Borgo Durbecco.

Borgo Durbecco (today called Corso Europa) is one of Faenza's districts and its first knowledges go all the way back to XI century.
STAGE 1 - PONTE DELLE GRAZIE
The Bridge its in the same place where once was another one, called Ponte delle Torri, built from Faenza's lord Francesco Manfredi in 1313 to link the hamlet to Faenza and unfortunately destroyed by a Lamone River's flood in 1842. You can still see the old structure on the Rione Bianco's flag.
Faenza is famous for the "Palio of the Niballo", that takes place every summer in the city stadium, where the 5 district compete in a medieval joust.
Recently the Rione Bianco (white district) has officialy changed name in Borgo Durbecco, to remark the hamlet where its seat is.
First Hint
Engraved on the bridge there's a Roman Number (repeated two times in two different places on the structure). Find it and convert to an arabic number.
Example: XI = 11

STAGE 2 - CHIESA DELLA COMMENDA
The church is opened from 9AM to 7PM. It's not required to go inside to find the hint, but it's highly suggested to visit it
The first documentations about this church, dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene, go all the way back to 1137. This church is often referred to as the Magione (from french maison), tipical denomination of knights houses, because of a document from 1301 that associated the church-hospice to the Knights of St. John in Jerusalem.
It takes its current name in 1500 because it become the administrative seat of the Giovanniti.
Inside the church on the left side it's situated Fra Sabba's grave, belonged to the order of Sopitalieri's Knights, made of a sandstone slab with his own epigraph engraved.

On the information plate next to the church entrance there's only one year reported with other informations. It will be in the format: ACDD
STAGE 3 - PORTA DELLE CHIAVI
This is the only ancient entrance still standing in Faenza. There were a lot of them and today they are gone for various reasons:
- Porta Ravegnana was demolished in 1870 to facilitate the construction for the new railway line Bologna-Ancona;
- Porta Pia was destroyed by the German at 3PM o' clock on 8 December 1944;
- Porta Imolese was destroyed on 7 or 14 December 1944 (sources on the date are discordant) from the escaping German soldiers;
- Porta Montanara followed the same fate on 14 December 1944;
- Porta Ponte, located on the old Ponte delle Torri, was demolished after the Lamone River's flood in 1842, because the citizens were scared about a possible sudden collapse (even if the tower didn't suffer any damage);
- Porta Torretta, located in Borgo Durbecco, was demolished on citizens request when it was already incorporated in the growing urban district in 1898;
- Porta Candiana, miraculously escaped to the bombing of the Second Worl War, was instead illegally demolished in the first months of 1945.
This survivor takes its name from the donation of the keys to the city to Pope Pio IX in 1857. To another Pope its instead linked the plate you can find here, engraved in occasion of the visit from Pope John Paul II on May 1986. The entrance is the last residuate of a group of ancient walls that, similary to the Faenza's one, surrounded the whole Borgo Durbecco.
