View of Arnold House from the Wynmarith c.1930
Completed in 1856 the high walled impressive Wynmarith House, with extensive stables and coach house, stood dominantly facing Arnold House, later to become Arnold School and now Armfield Academy.
Wynmarith House, so local legend has it, was named after the owner’s three daughters, Winifred, Mary and Edith.
In 1947 it became the local Conservative Party headquarters and then into a hotel with a casino on the first floor. In 1961, Wynmarith House was advertising itself as a “high-class dinner club and casino". In the early 70s it revamped itself again, this time as a discotheque, and later changed into a public house and renamed as The Burlington.
The landlady and staff are aware of the cache and the pub itself is child and dog friendly; if you do call in mention the cache and you will be made very welcome.
