Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the above coordinates .This is where a concrete information plaque states where the Sugar Beet Mill was located. Down Grange Road to the south would have been the home of William Murray Ross - owner of the unsuccessful Rosstown Railway fame . If you have found the three Rosstown Railway Series caches (RR1 RR2 &RR3) and checked the local water supply - Park Fountain (PF) , you'll be able to find this cache from those clues.

This is the Mystery cache along the Rosstown Rail Trail. The Rosstown Railway Series of caches is along this trail and consists of 8 traditional caches , this mystery cache and 2 multi-caches.

  • All Aboard Mr Bent.
  • Murrumbeena Turntable
  • Rosstown Railway caches -1, 2, 3.
  • Locomotion
  • Princes Park Station
  • Rosstown Sugarbeet Mystery cache.
  • Platform 625.
  • Rosstown Multicache - Take a Ticket.

Rosstown's sugar beet mill's location was on the railway route - Now it's location is in modern day suburban Neville Street Carnegie along the Rosstown Rail Trail - there is a plaque there indicating its location . Destined never to be used but always a dream . William Murray Ross built the never to be used Rosstown Railway first in 1883 and then had to be redone in 1887-8 due to the shoddiness of the original build. It was to carry produce from his other failed venture in the area the sugar beet mill.( the Northern Queensland Sugar cane industry would have probably ended it time anyway. ) There was a lot of concern from the market gardeners in the area that his mill would use all the water supply available in the area- (Lehmann's Swamp Reserve - now Koornang Park and the current swimming pool!) The railway would have been useful in today's age as it would have linked the Dandenong Line /go under the Frankston Line and eventually meet Sandringham Line at Elsternwick.

Now to the cache - you are looking for a 400ml sisterna container - room for swappables at a location worked out with the following numbers collected at the three Rosstown Railway caches (RR1 RR2 & RR3)- at the drinking fountains close to the caches. Please replace the cache as you find it. Joint FTF honours go to The Welder, n0w0rries and Archie B1 -
