Troop 1535 worked the Geocaching Merit Badge decided to place their first geocache in Byron Park. They deliberated on the container they wanted to use much! After finally deciding, they placed the cache and have checked it consistently and hope to have some hits soon! It has taken their new Scoutmaster a little time to get it logged, but now that it is, the boys are excited to see the results!
As you walk along the Gerry Connolly Cross County trail, you will happen up Byron Park that hosts 5 baseball fields. The coordinates are accurate and the container is slightly hidden in the foilage, but is on the riverside closest to the trail. The entrance is between two ball fields, one without an outfield fence and one with a fence. You will see a pile of cut wood along the path - the path to the riverbank is to the side of the wood. Don't go down the bank, stay on the high edge and turn left upon entering the path...What kind of container? Well, let just say you might find the water source to the river - used long ago to start the Accotink Creek! Once you locate it, you can unscrew it to find the cache. The park is closed from sundown to sunup, so get there during the day or a cool evening! Happy Hunting and joyful hiking! Troop 1535.
