De Lieve was het eerste waterweg die gegraven werd om Gent met de zee te verbinden. Het kanaal begint aan het Gravensteen en kwam in de Noordzee ter hoogte van Damme. De aanleg startte in 1251, in opdracht van Stad Gent. De verzanding van het Zwin en de economische achteruitgang van Brugge zorgden ervoor dat de Lieve stilaan in onbruik geraakte. In 1549 werd begonnen met de aanleg van de Sassevaart (later Kanaal Gent-Terneuzen), als alternatieve route naar de Noordzee.
Tussen de Nieuwe Vaart en het Kanaal Gent-Terneuzen loopt de Lieve door de Wondelgemse Meersen. De loop is er goed te volgen en er zijn nog grote stukken bewaard.

Parkeren kan je op P+R Galveston (1.5u gratis parkeren). Daar kan je het pad (300m) nemen naar de cache. Het pad start recht tegenover de slagbomen van de parking.
Er is ook parkeerplaats dichter bij de cache op de Buitensingel

The Lieve was the first canal to connect Ghent with the North Sea. The Lieve starts at the Gravensteen and flew into the sea near Damme. In 1251, the city of Ghent ordered for the digging. Due to the silting of the Zwin and the economic decline of Bruges, the utilization of the Lieve canal decreased gradually. In 1549 the digging of the Sassevaart (later Canal Ghent-Terneuzen) was started, providing an alternative route to the North Sea from Ghent.
Between the Nieuwe Vaart and Canal Ghent-Terneuzen, the Lieve crosses the Wondelgemse Meersen. On this section of the Lieve, big parts of the course are still well preserved.

Parking space is available at at P+R Galveston (1.5h parking for free). From there you can take the track (300m) to the cache. The path starts at the boom barriers of the car park, at the other side of the road.
