Geocache Description:

The posted coordinates bring you to the Turtle Meeting Place. This area is the second of four meeting places to be built along the Red Hill Valley Trail. The first (Bear) was completed in 2014, and the Turtle was constructed in 2017. The final two meeting places (Eel and Nest) have yet to be built at the time of cache placement. These meeting places are a project of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy and the City of Hamilton through the Joint Stewardship Board. They are a good place to reflect on the environmental and cultural history of the area.

The Turtle Meeting Place is a landscape of different segments that resemble the back of a turtle. There are area segments composed of seating areas and small vegetation-covered hills. Between all these area segments there are path segments that allow you to walk between them.

To locate the final of this multicache, you'll have to count and calculate a few things based on these area and path segments:

  • A: # of sides of the seating area segment that is closest to the main Red Hill Trail (e.g. 6 if it's a hexagon)
  • B: # of paths leading up from the main Red Hill Valley Trail to the turtle
  • C: # of seating area segments
  • D: # of path segments that are between two hill segments (consider a path segment to be any section of path between two corners of area segments)
  • E: # of rocks in each seating area
  • F: # of pairs of rocks in each seating area
  • G: C*2
  • H: A+B
  • J: # of hill segments that make up the turtle

To find the North coordinates, substitute the above numbers into 43° 13.GHJ.

To find the West coordinates, add ((D*E)+F)/1000 to 079° 47.000.

The best approach to the final is from a street just to the east. Container is a camoed PB jar. It is within 3 km of the posted coordinates.
