Welcome to the Marysville Flats! This area is the primary location for the Nashwaak Watershed's planting and restoration projects! The flats are a retired hayfield, that was originally a silver maple floodplain forest. NWAI is working to return the area to its original ecosystem by planting silver maple trees throughout the flats. The benefits of re-establishing the native floodplain forest are many! Some of the most notable are re-establishing natural habitat for many species, increasing floodwater uptake by silver maple trees and mitigating spring flood damages, tree roots stabilizing the soil and preventing erosion, and carbon uptake and sequestration from the atmosphere.
This is a new cache in a old location, so if you found the old cache welcome back to the river
