Put away your GPS, and get out your smartphone. This is a new style interactive cache taking you on a journey for a geocache! Please read before you head out! *This cache requires a mobile Internet connection while finding the geocache*
So what's an intercache? An intercache is an interactive geocache. An intercache is a new way of creating a mystery geocache, similar to a wherigo geocache. The biggest difference is that the entire geocache can be developed, edited, and played on your mobile phone's browser with no software required to download!
How do you play? First, make sure you have a compatible device. Go to https://intercaching.com/intercache/index.php or https://intercaching.com/intercache/test.php on your mobile phone /device and select the “test device” button. I recommend doing this outside for best results. You should see your current coordinates as well as the estimated accuracy. If you see something reasonable, you'll all set! If you get an error, you may need to enable the GPS and other geolocation settings on your phone. Else grab a friend by a device and go as a team! You might be able to play THIS intercache on you home PC.
If your device is compatible, follow this link on you mobile phone/ device https://www.intercaching.com/play/P1908-0F3E-3F4A-3E5E (or search the list of intercaches for "GC7CB9A - Quest for the Holy Grail") or touch link <a href="https://www.intercaching.com/play/P1908-0F3E-3F4A-3E5E">Start</a> I have this intercache set up in an attempt to allow it to be a "play anywhere" intercache. We'll see how it works out. You MIGHT be able to complete your virtual quest from your home computer. You MIGHT need to be within about 60 miles of the listed coordinates. The listed coordinates are in Blue Ash's Summit park - a nice bench is nearby to sit on an do your virtual quest. There's no wandering around until you head for the geocache container which is also in Summit Park.
Your virtual quest is based on the movie "Monty Python and the Holy Grail". The difficulty listed will vary greatly depending on your knowledge of the movie. There are 13 stages based on the major scenes of the movie and there's 1 question to answer per stage. You might be able to find some answers online - preferably watch the movie! It is available on youtube. After the last stage the intercache will try to navigate you to the final. The navigation inside the program is a little wonky (at least on iPhone 5C) , but I also list the final coordinates so you can plug them into your GPSr.
This is a new way of looking for a geocache. I tested this best I can on my device (iPhone 5c) and on my PC as best I could. But you may encounter some problems. Sorry if this is the case (Let me know of any issues and I will see if I can help!) I am not sure how these will take off but I thought I would give it a go as I love being a bit geeky with things I will look forward to reading your logs about how you think it has gone. Good Luck! Other notes: I recommend that you do NOT leave the web browser during play. At minimum, don't open a new web page. I successfully switched apps while playing/testing it, but if you close the browser window, you may have to start over. It's safe to let your screen timeout while walking. When the screen times out, your GPS *should* go off and not waste battery. When you turn your phone screen back on, it might take a few seconds for the app to get your coordinates again.
I hope you enjoy this new idea for a geocache and I hope it works for you.
*From the author of the intercache webpage*
"If you're interested in making your own, please go ahead and try. But let me know as I'm still making changes and updates, and might break something you have done. At a minimum, please make a backup copy of your values by going to the print dialog on the edit screen, which will let you either print or save the cache and locations. New features coming "soon" Nonlinear play, allowing visits to stops in any order Restricted times ... prevent the cache from working at night in closed areas, or only allow it to work at night for a new way of creating a night cache! Timing ... specifies a max time to get between stages. Make those cachers run! Random orders ... each player gets random order for the waypoints. This prevents cacher congestion as happens during some multis."
