On a Dakota Prairie Chapter segment of the North Country Trail.
This area is on the eastern edge of the Sheyenne Delta which is a 369 sq mile sandy and duned grassland formed where a glacial outwash flowed into Lake Agassiz at the end of the last ice age. Along the west right-of-way boundary of the Red River Valley & Western Railroad. NCTA volunteers clear, blaze and maintain the path of the North Country Trail in this area. The terrain may be rough with heavy grass and brush, especially if you deviate from the cleared path. Since the soil is very sandy, the watertable varies with the seasons and wet & dry cycles, so be prepared to get your feet wet in places during some times of some years.
