Even within the city of Anchorage, moose can be spotted nearly anywhere. Since he was a puppy Bernie has learned to always be on the lookout for moose, which are frequent visitors to Bernie's neighborhood. Although usually not aggressive, moose can be quite dangerous when provoked and more people are injured by moose than bears every year in Alaska.
Bernie's best hero moment was when he used his Australian shepherd instincts to herd a charging moose away from his humans.
Bernie urges you to always respect any moose you encounter and give them plenty of space; never attempt to feed or approach a moose (and definitely don't let your unruly dog chase it- -Bernie would never do that!). Moose are beautiful creatures, and like the rest of us, they are just trying to eek out their survival in this arctic urban landscape.
As always, please be watchful for moose when seeking out this geocache. Also, Bernie asks that you bring a pen, because the cache is small. And just remove the log holder, not the host.
