A rather impressive bridge with a long history that still continues to serve us well today...
Lady Bay bridge was built in 1878 as the crossing over the river Trent for the Melton Mowbray to Nottingham Midland Station line of the Midland Railway Company. The line was closed and largely removed as part of the Beeching rationalisation in1968 although a section of it remain further south as the test track for new and refurbished locomotives and underground trains from the Bombardier works in Derby. Nottingham City Council drew up plans to convert the river crossing from rail to road and so relieve pressure on Trent Bridge further upstream. However, these works were not complete until 1980. Today it is a crucial river crossing for the east of the city and will remain so as development of this part of Nottingham continues. You are looking for a camouflaged nano-tube with just the log in it. It's an easy find but in a very awkward place. The road is perpetually busy and the walkway beside it sees a constant stream of pedestrians and cyclists. You will have to pick your moment! Please make sure the container is tightly sealed and replaced exactly where you find it....it can't drop where it is. You will probably need tweezers. Parking is a challenge too because of the proximity of the two football clubs and other sporting facilities in the area. You could use the Lady Bay retail park round the corner on Meadow Lane or stay on the West Bridgford side of the river and park up adjacent the Nottingham Rugby Football club site where there is a small recreational area on Holme Road. In either place you will end up crossing the very busy A6011 which has a footpath on only one side of the road. Take care and watch the kids if you bring them. Enjoy! PS: congrats to NottsWalker on his speedy FTF. Nice one with the parking too, it's not easy! About SideTracked Caches This cache belongs to the SideTracked series.
