Geocache Description:

A short hike down the Long Path to the cache which is hidden inside of a interesting natural item.  Cache is hidden trailside so rehide well.  Log sheet only in cache,  bring a pen.

The Old Overlook Road, built in the 1800s to access bluestone quarries and Catskill hotels, now a new footpath is used that bypasses a long section of the old road that was suffering from severe erosion. This new trail is part of the Long Path, which is a partnership project with the NY/NJ Trail Conference. The footbridge by the trailhead is a handmade re-creation of a kingpost bridge that once spanned Plattekill Creek in the same spot over 100 years ago. There are also some interpretive and tree ID signs along the Preserve trails. The hike to the cache is less than 0.5 mile and is a slight elevation gain. Further down the trail, just over the State boundary, there is a large bluestone quarry where hikers have piled up slabs of bluestone into a small kingdom of thrones, towers, and tables. Further down is the trail that heads up to Indian Head Mountain, Devils Kitchen Lean-to, and another bluestone quarry.
