A very pleasant walk of 5 miles or so that takes in Hatterrall Hill - the most southerly high ground of the Offa's Dyke ridge in the Black Mountains, and which starts behind the fabulous crooked Cwmyoy church in the Llanthony valley.
Although the maximum elevation is only 531m this walk takes you into 'proper' open mountain walking with a steep ascent near the start and exposed hilltops, but the walking is always on well-defined footpaths to one degree or another and the views from virtually every point on the walk are fantastic! Despite this the area is not that well-trodden and you are unlikely to bump into more than one or two other walkers even on a sunny summer's day at the weekend.
Because of the environment this should be tackled with proper walking kit, including good footwear, waterproofs, warm clothing, spare food, map etc etc
There is parking behind the very unusual Cymyoy church (where I also have a multi as part of my Monmouthshire Rural Churches series which I would encourage you to do) and this is where the footpath to the hill begins (follow the 'Graig 0.1km' sign). This is equally as much about the walk as the caches and most of the cache are very simple finds due to the lack of hiding places on the open hillside.
I have supplied a suggested route here and you never need to stray far from the paths to find the caches.
Head right up the obvious track from here to reach number 2.
