Growing @ Goral Traditional Cache

This cache is temporarily unavailable.

Keystone: This geocache came to my attention as being in need of an owner maintenance visit. The cache owner needs to check on this cache ASAP and either fix the problem or archive the listing, after picking up any geo-litter. See the maintenance section of the Geocache Hiding Guidelines. In the meantime, I've temporarily disabled this cache page.

Owner, if there is a good reason for a long delay in enabling this cache, do not contact me through email or the message center. Please post an update note log here on the cache page so that everyone will know what's going on. When the maintenance is completed, you can re-enable the listing by entering an "enable listing" log. Use an "Owner Maintenance" log to clear the "Needs Maintenance" attribute, if set.

I will check back in four weeks or so to be sure that the maintenance has been done, or that an explanation has been provided. If the problem persists, I will need to archive this cache page for lack of maintenance.

Keystone

Geocache Description:

Cache located off of Goral Road in Homer City PA

Part of the Indiana County GeoTrail

The land in Indiana County is predominantly used for agriculture. While most farmers use traditional practices, some have begun using best management practices to help conserve soil and nutrients. Traditional farming tills the soil, which causes it to run off into streams during rain events, and strips the soil of its natural nutrients. In using best management practices, such as no-till, the farmers do not till the soil, allowing retention of soil and nutrients. This not only helps protect the streams from an excess of sediment (a pollutant), but it also prevents the farmer from having to spend more money on fertilizers.  This cache will take you to a farm that uses no-till, and many other best management practices to best care for the land.

There is a long dirt lane on the right side of the road you are welcome to pull off on to, if approaching from the north. If coming from the south, there is a pull off on the left, just before a forested buffer between fields. Both are dirt and rough, be careful if you do not have a four wheel drive vehicle. Do not drive over terrain that is diffucult to navigate or turn around on. Cache may be hidden near poison ivy, although we are trying to control it so it doesn't grow back!
