The Stormwater Education Partnership, a collaborative of local entities interested in stormwater controls and protecting local waterways in White Township and the Indiana Boro, was formed in 2015. The group meets monthly to discuss ways to mitigate stormwater, educate each other, and works to engage the community.
So, whats the big deal? Stormwater is water from rain and snowfall that runs off of paved surfaces and floods our waterways (sound familiar, Indiana?). It isn't so great because it causes flooding and erosion, and water that runs directly into our streams brings with it oil, garbage, chemicals, gravel, and other pollutants.
The White Township Municipal Building is practicing what it preaches in the way of stormwater. A rain garden was recently installed on site to help slow water flow and offer a place for runoff to go during large rain events, and even to help reduce flooding.
