Geocache Description:

We put a geocache here on 6/1/2010. It was archived on 1/23/2015 because of road work and bridge replacement. The old bridge was removed, the new bridges are being used, and the historical markers have been put back up but at a slightly different location. The old cahe (GC29M29) had 140 finds and 5 favorite votes. When we returned to put a new cache here, we found the old container and log still attached.

The Gardner Mansion was completed in 1884 for Jefferson Gardner, a prominent Choctaw leader, merchant, and principal chief.  The home stands near the Old Military Road (Choctaw Trail of Tears) and at the first site of Eagletown and the Eagletown County Court Ground, Choctaw Nation. Construction was by Choctaw builders, James and Joel Dyer, using Choctaw labor and hand tools. It required three years to Complete. In 1884 Gardner also constructed a new Eagle County Courthouse and a general store which included a post office. The home is owned and preserved by the Stiles family and was placed on the National Register of Historicald Places in 1975. The pullout contains five markers with lots of good history and if you like to float, fish, hike, or camp you are in the right place to enjoy scenic southeast Oklahoma. The pullout is right front of the markers. After signing the log please return it to the appropriate spot. The pullout is a nice one but please be careful beause the speed limit here is 65 mph.
