群馬県内で採れる石灰と河川水をまぜて濃度14～15％の中和剤を作り、これを湯川の上に設置された投入口から自然に投下しています。
3km下流の品木ダムに流れ込むまでにｐH2.1の湯川の水はｐH5.5程度まで中和されます。
