WRW #2: Ilkley Stepping Stones

The cache, a black screw-capped sample tube, is hidden just off the riverside footpath to the south some 40m west of this foot-crossing of the Wharfe. See here for a complete and interesting list of all the Wharfe crossings.
To reach the cache location: park at N 53 55.774 W 1 47.965 on the roadside/pavement of Leeds Rd (A65) carefully watching out for traffic on this busy road. Make your way some 80m west to start of the public footpath which leads down to the stones. Then head the short distance upriver to the cache location.
The stones are on a long-established public footpath which links Leeds Road and the footpath running west along the south side of the river to Denton Road on the north bank of the river. They are covered at times of increased river flow. No information could be found on when they were put in place and how/when they have been maintained.
