Geocache Description:

This is the sixth geocache in a series of caches that direct players on a tour of the Nashwaak Watershed, a beautiful and environmentally significant area that stretches from Nashwaak Lake in Central New Brunswick all the way to the confluence of the Nashwaak River with the Saint John River.

This forested floodplain area is key to the mitigation of flooding and the filtration of runoff before it enters the river. Keeping a healthy riparian zone (the area within a few meters of the water) is vital to a maintaining a healthy river system and watershed! Property owners with waterfront property will help both themselves and the environment by keeping a several meter buffer of native grasses, trees and shrubs along the riverbank instead of clearing down to the water.
