Applying Geocaching to Education
This cache is a part of a pedagogic European Erasmus + project called « Geocaching - Minds on the Move ». Pupils and teachers from seven different countries (France, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and Spain) have used Geocaching as an Educational Tool. We hope you’ll enjoy it.

Built according to designs by Alessandro Antonelli (1860), this house is considered the most outstanding private building ever made in Novara by the famous architect. Casa Bossi is clearly representative of the Neo-classical taste and of the innovative style the famous architect brought to the city.
In 1859, not long after he had acquired the Baroque building, Luigi Desanti contacted architect Alessandro Antonelli and asked him to plan the restoration and enlargement of the house. Antonelli’s design encompassed the preexisting construction, maintaining its residential rooms, transforming the attached servants’ quarters and using part of the back gardens, with a stunning overall effect. The owner died only five years later, and didn’t get to enjoy the villa he had commissioned.
In 1880 the villa was purchased by Carlo Bossi and from that moment on it acquired the new owner’s last name.
The building is one of city’s best examples of urban architecture: it stands in a privileged position, along the city’s Western rim, along the tree-lined Baluardo, facing the Alps.
In the portions of the building that are reserved to the servants’ quarters the materials used to build and decorate are less refined and expensive, but the overall quality remains, making the building a fine example of a new way to conceive house-building.
All spaces have a function and are connected in order to enhance the life quality of all the residents and their serving staff.
Observing the façade you can easily notice the influence of Greek architecture, especially with reference to the temple construction.
Antonelli was certainly inspired by ancient Greek art, but he used classical elements in his way, in order to obtain balance and harmony, while still focusing on usefulness and convenience.

Costruita su progetto di Alessandro Antonelli (1860), questa casa è considerata l'edificio privato più importante mai realizzato a Novara dal famoso architetto. Casa Bossi è chiaramente rappresentativa del gusto neoclassico e dello stile innovativo che il talentuoso architetto ha portato in città.
Nel 1859, poco dopo aver acquisito l'edificio barocco, Luigi Desanti contattò l'architetto Alessandro Antonelli e gli chiese di pianificare il restauro e l'ampliamento della casa. Il progetto di Antonelli comprendeva la preesistente costruzione, mantenendo le sue stanze residenziali, trasformando gli alloggi dei servitori annessi e utilizzando parte dei giardini sul retro, con un effetto complessivo sorprendente. Il proprietario morì solo cinque anni dopo, e non riuscì a godersi la villa che aveva commissionato.
Nel 1880 la villa fu acquistata da Carlo Bossi e da quel momento acquisì il cognome del nuovo proprietario.
L'edificio è uno dei migliori esempi di architettura urbana: si trova in una posizione privilegiata, lungo il bordo occidentale della città, lungo il viale alberato detto Baluardo, con vista sulle Alpi.
Nelle parti dell'edificio che sono riservate agli alloggi dei domestici, i materiali usati per costruire e decorare sono meno raffinati e costosi, ma la qualità generale rimane, rendendo l'edificio un bell'esempio di un nuovo modo di concepire la costruzione di una casa.
Tutti gli spazi hanno una funzione e sono collegati tra loro per migliorare la qualità della vita di tutti i residenti e del loro personale di servizio.
Osservando la facciata si può facilmente notare l'influenza dell'architettura greca, soprattutto con riferimento alla costruzione del tempio.
Antonelli è stato sicuramente ispirato dall'antica arte greca, ma ha usato elementi classici a suo modo, al fine di ottenere equilibrio e armonia, pur continuando a focalizzarsi sull'utilità e sulla convenienza.
