Geocache Description:

In 1949, Mr. Alan Schafer built a simple 18 x 36 foot beer stand known as South of the Border Beer Depot. As it adjoined the North Carolina counties, which were dry of alcoholic beverages, business boomed. A few years later a 10-seat grill was added and the business was re-named South of the Border Drive-In. “The Border” has become a little town within itself. Now, 67 years later we hope you will enjoy another reason - Geocaches.

Pedro loves to see the Snowbirds as they make their annual migrations from parts way north, to the nice south.  This is a special cache for them, to welcome our friends from the Great White North.   Container was a prize won at a recent Canada Day event.

This is a NIGHT cache- although if you're really good, you might be able to do it in the daytime.  From the trailhead, it is a very short walking distance to the final- follow the tacks and use them to guide your path:  White tacks: keep on going down the path.   White and Red tacks: take a turn.  Red X marks the spot.

To find the coordinates for the trailhead, answer the question below and substitute the numbers:
N 34 29.aaa  W79 18.bbb

The "South of the Border" song was written and sung by who?
  • Frank Zappa -  aaa=545, bbb=501
  • Tom Bailey  - aaa=620, bbb=497
  • Patrick Kendall - aaa=669, bbb=671
  • Wayne Coyne - aa=705, bbb=685
You'll plenty of parking near the trailhead.

*** WARNING *** The final for this Multi is very close to a firing range at SOB. You would probably be safe, but "just in case", if you try this during the daytime and you hear gunfire in the distance, DO NOT GO; wait until later.
